My Chinaman

LongLegs wanted his cricket kit, so I took it with me when we met up for his annual chat with his cardiology consultant at Barts Hospital.

LongLegs bowls a Chinaman. He’s a left-handed spinner so people like having him on the Team.

It amuses me though, that a lady travelling with a cricket bag on the underground makes certain kinds and nationalities of men stare. They seemed curious. Really curious. :-)

Anyway, the bigger significant thing of today was that LongLegs’ most recent MRI shows that his aorta has enlarged significantly enough to cross a threshold, on which they recommend aortic replacement.

Poor LongLegs was shocked. We knew he’d need this operation one day (all Marfans do) but he and we thought it was years away.

But it’s now. It’ll be a 4-hour open heart surgery, with 6 weeks minimum convalescence and 3 months off physical exertion. Poor LongLegs. It needs to be done. We have amazing experts in our NHS and we know he’ll be really well looked after. God’s timing is sovereign. We all know this.

He was saddest about missing his Co-Mission training and his footie, his squash and his cricket.
