Walek 1920-2019 RIP

Great Uncle Walek died earlier this evening. He was 99 and a bit.

The picture was taken in his garden around 1970, possibly 1969. I am the toddler on the right, and his older daughter is on the left.

We had tea and cake together in the same garden last Saturday morning, when the weather was beautiful. That was his last day at home as he was admitted to hospital that evening.

He came to this country in 1947 with just a suitcase, and within a few years had started his own business and bought his own house. Both his daughters went to University, one is a leading psychiatrist, the other a language teacher and author.

Walek waved goodbye to all assembled as he went to sleep for the last time.

What a role model.
