Blippers in Vienna

Hubby and I caught the train to Vienna this morning to meet up with Beckett and his lovely family. He said to assure the Blip community that he is alive and well (see extra) but there hasn't been time or internet connection to keep up. Stay tuned for some backblips (but don't hold your breath as his gorgeous grandkids are keeping him very busy).
We started off at Demel, a famed Konditerei (confectioners) dating back to 1856. After coffee and delicious cakes, we walked to the centre of the old town to see St Stephen's Cathedral. From there we took the underground to Prater. This was a great hit with the grand kids (and the adults.) We had lunch at the Schweizerhaus (Swiss House) which is famous for their grilled pork knuckle. Super crispy crackling and lots of it!
Some more rides for the kids then we all went on the 'giant' ferris wheel (see Prater link) for a gentle ride with a fabulous view over the surrounding park. The next stop was the Stadtpark to see the golden statue of Johann Stauss. Well worth the trip as I hadn't seen it before and the park is beautiful. The kids played in the large playground while we strolled around the lovely gardens. We led the family back to their apartment in Vienna for a well earned sit down and a drink. No. 1 grandchild, all of 7-and-a-bit years old, had disappeared for a while then surprised us all with a plate of bread topped with ham to snack on. Hubby and I went to catch our train back home after a fantastic but exhausting day. What lovely people Blippers are and Beckett also has a lovely family that made us feel so at home with them.
