Here we go again!

Musée Delacroix

I met with a student this morning to talk over an independent study project. After lunch, Ch and I walked to the Musée Delacroix on Place Furstenberg. We got there in time for a tour with a very good guide. (Third museum in three days -- in case anyone is counting!)

Judith Cladel, one of the authors I've been researching while here, lived in the same apartment building as Delacroix had some 50 years later. It seems that when the museum was founded by the Société des Amis de Delacroix in the 1920s (Cladel was a member), only the artist's studio was accessible and visitors came in through the small green door in the right corner of this photo, then across the garden. Only later, in the 1970s, did the Museum acquire the apartment as well. Cladel had founded the Rodin Museum in 1916 and there are similarities between it and the Delacroix museum, both former artists' residences and studios, with their charming gardens.
