Fundraiser that didn't
Tonight was a fundraiser for an immigrant teenager being held hostage by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The child has lived in the USA since she was an infant, and her mother has been approved as a legal immigrant, but the daughter's case is still pending. Her family has been told if they pay $10,000 "bail" money, they can have their daughter back, though even after paying that money, there is no guarantee the child will be able to stay.
Two people close to the immigrant community in Portland quickly put together an art auction, and they gathered donations of a great many paintings, photographs, and fine crafts. Many excellent musicians were on hand to entertain the crowd, but sadly, apart from the artists and the musicians, nobody came. Very little money was raised to help the family.
