Sunrise over the Waitaki River

The Waitaki River is a large braided river that drains the Mackenzie Basin and flows through Lake Benmore, Lake Aviemore and Lake Waitaki and the hydro dams.


An early morning for us all, starting off with a fabulous, albeit brief sunrise, at the Aviemore Dam, followed by a 9 hour drive home, stopping lots of times for more photos! There was a storm over Mt. Cook, so we drove up beside Lake Pukaki, and marvelled at the ferocity of the storm!

We had a wonderful 4 days away and were incredibly lucky with the timing of the autumn colours, and also the weather.
