I am very interested in how contagious illness is spread and have read some fascinating books on this subject (The Great Influenza, The Coming Plague). If we keep wrecking the earth's ecosystems, we risk releasing more and more contagious and viral illnesses into the human population. We are seeing more lethal animal viruses jump to humans. It 's just a matter of time before we run up against a fast- moving, contagious virus that kills millions of us. It happened with the 1917-'18 flu, which killed 50 million humans. The science of epidemiology cannot save us if we keep behaving like idiots.
