May Day

Happy May Day blippers!
Although many countries celebrate May Day, no other country celebrates it quite the same way as the French.

May day is a public holiday in France and is the only day of the year where workers must all legally be given a paid day off.
It is customary to give a lily of the valley flower and sometimes and/or a single rose as a gesture of friendship and good luck for the next year in celebration of spring.

Our lovely neighbour Jean-Claude bought this rose and sprig of lily of the valley round this morning. Unfortunately, by the time I took this photo the lily of the valley was looking a lot worse for wear.

The words 'Je porte bonheur' mean 'I bring happiness'
