Out on the bikes

Today started with a well deserved lie in. A very lazy start to a not so lazy day. The sun was shining and the skies were clear(ish), we were going for a bike ride. Around midday, using the maps from LF, we set off for the coast. The plan was to cycle from Edinburgh to Kinross via the 1 and 76 cycle route, and then back over the bridge and on the other side of the forth - in what turned out to be a 62 mile route. The path was brilliant, and aside from a few very quiet roads, was mainly cycle paths the whole way. Looking out to the trossachs on our way out, we went over a mixture of coastal paths and on old country lanes cutting through fields, it all felt a million miles away from the library. In our haste to get on the road we only a brought a few snacks to keep us going, planning to buy a late afternoon lunch somewhere along the route. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of only thinking about this when we were 40 miles in and nowhere near a shop/cafe. The next 10 miles were pretty hard running only on a small breakfast and chocolate, but, despite some low moments (mainly mine, I’m ruled by my stomach), we smiled through it and there was chippy waiting for us on the other side in Queensferry. Total route was just over 60 miles and we finished in 5 hours, with a nice warm bath to finish.

Tired legs, but big smiles. A great day.
