An Edinburgh contrast

I was asked to say a few words at the Holyrood Magazine 20th anniversary party tonight , having been one of their columnists for a number of years , though that was over a decade ago.

Walking back up to the Parliament from Calton Rd through Lochead Close (where I had a flat in the first term of the Parliament) I was s struck by this contrast - the green classic shape of the tree standing out against the modernist classic of the Canongate Buildings, finished in 1969 and designed by Sir Basil Spence.

There is always something to stop and appreciate in Edinburgh and always things worth protecting and preserving.

But also, as this show, always room for innovation too.
