Watercolour Pencil

This picture looks across the Firth of Clyde from Largs. The monument to the right - locally known as "The Pencil" - commemorates the last Viking battle in Britain in 1263 which took place near here. The islands of Big Cumbrae and Arran are on the horizon. I sank my tripod into the sand so that I could take three long exposures with my Nikon D300s and a wide angle lens an inch or two above the water's surface. All of the images were combined in the computer to get detail in the dark foreground as well as the late gloaming sky..
