Last day of exhibition

In the early 18th century the Dutch painter Casper van Wittel was one of the most famous painters of cityscapes. He left the Netherlands when he was 20 years old and settled in Italy, where he became knows as 'Vanvitelli' and quickly became a painter of very sought after pictures of Italian cities and landscapes. Apparently he was a direct influence on Canaletto. Most of his work hangs in museums outside of the Netherlands so it was a rare opportunity to see so many of his paintings brougth together.
