Empty nest

Got off the bus in streaming rain and caught sight of the empty swan's nest at The Shore. There are various stories about what happened but it seems that the female swan of the pair that have been nesting around here for 20 years, was found dead here at the weekend. Just as they were setting up for another brood. It's unbearably sad.
