Hedgehog Rescue

This little chap was running across the road in Silkstone as we returned from Cannon Hall this afternoon. a) hedgehogs shouldn't be running around in broad daylight, and b) it's still too small to hibernate. It's now safely delivered to our friend who runs a hedgehog sanctuary. She will take it to the vet in the morning and get it checked over. (A says it's the best Christmas present anyone could give her.) I've a good feeling about this one as it seemed to be quite lively as it crossed the road. Apparently the adults have carried on breeding this year because the wet weather has meant a plentiful supply of slugs and worms but then the mum's have gone into hibernation leaving their offspring to fend for themselves.

My brother arrived from America at 8.45am this morning (dropped off at our house by taxi) and later we met up with my mum and brother for lunch where we were so well looked after by S from the Cannon Hall cafe staff. (They have to work so hard at this time of year but they always remain so cheery.)
