Sir Walter Scott, Wojtek and Me

Pat and I spent the day in Edinburgh. Weather sunny and blue.

I gave a talk to the Scottish Arts Club and we were entertained to Lunch. The subject was "Constructing the Bell Rock Lighthouse".

Although I have given this talk many times to various groups this was the first time Pat had seen me perform. Her review was highly favourable and the audience reaction was very good.

Lighthouses are very popular with many people.

I was able to reference it to some members in the audience and highlight several EDINBURGH aspects of what is a "World First".

We walked back from Rutland Square to Waverley along the garden side and I Blipfotoed two sculptures.

The highlight is Wojtek, the Polish Bear by our friend Alan Herriot. The sculpture is located in Princes Street Gardens and is very popular with children of all ages.

The extra is the monument to Sir Walter Scott, the Scottish historical novelist, poet, playwright and historian.

There is an interesting relationship between Scott, and Robert Stevenson who designed and built the Bell Rock. Scott accompanied Stevenson on one of his tours of inspection of Scottish lights.
