It's a Long Road

This is an ancient causeway that stretches from above Todmorden town centre, over Todmorden Moor towards Burnley and drops down to the valley road at the Lancashire/Yorkshire boundary as shown on Mrs. MD's Blip.
It has its summit at 435m and is an ancient highway that has been in use since the Bronze Age.
Coal seams outcropped across the moor and for generations this "easy" coal was taken by the farmers. From the early nineteenth century, underground drift mining started in earnest and lasted until the 1960s.
