All washed up

Highlight of my day: Sister Wendy Beckett on Desert Island Discs. I listened to the podcast whilst washing up.

Perhaps it is because I am Catholic but here is someone who has tremendous charisma and charm while living a life quite disconnected from many things that the rest of us take for granted. And she made me laugh, which is always good.

Alpine plants are often hairy. The classic is Eidelweiss, Leontopodium alpinum, which has intensely hairy bracts around rather small and uninteresting florets. Here is Androsace sarmentosa, which I have grown outside for over twenty years, it's coif slightly matted after the recent deluge. It has pink flowers in Spring.
