Orion

As I said yesterday there is always something going on in downtown Bethlehem during this festive time of year.

We had read in the local paper that the Coca Cola Christmas truck was going to be parked along Main Street. Along with the truck (which lights up!) there were other events, including a birds of prey demonstration put on by the Lehigh Valley Zoo. The zoo representatives brought four birds to showcase and talk about. There was a female American Kestral, an Eastern-Screech owl, a Barred owl, and the Great Horned owl seen here. I have photos of the other birds, but don't have the time to post them right now.

I learned some very interesting facts about birds:

1. Most Pennsylvania birds have NO sense of smell. Only vultures have the sense of smell.
2. Owls can be either nocturnal or diurnal (out during the day).
3. Diurnal owls have black eyes and nocturnal owls have color pigmented eyes.
