Fergus Garrett at Great Dixter

A day out to mark Susan's birthday which was why today's blip wasn't posted on the day but the following morning.

First off we called in at the Kent and East Sussex Railway to soak up the atmosphere of the 1940s weekend. Very good it was too, lots of period  stuff, cars, military vehicles, displays with many people re-enacting the times either in uniform or civvies.

After lunch it was on to Great Dixter gardens in Northiam, former home of Christopher Lloyd and now led by Fergus Garrett, him of the white hat in the blip, who was giving a private tour of the gardens. There were many great photos to be taken here, this summed up the lush almost chaotic planting advocated by Lloyd who was challenging the gardening orthodoxy of the time by experimenting with clashing colours plantings. I've included a couple of other shots, some from the iPhone which try to capture the essence of this place.

We had a short walk in the glorious East Sussex countryside then home for bubbles, nibbles and a birthday dinner. I think Susan enjoyed her birthday and day out
