Implosion Day

I got up super early to go to Bethlehem and watch the implosion of Martin Towers, which was built in 1972 as offices for Bethlehem Steel. It was listed as an historic site, but was later rezoned and left unprotected. It’s been vacant for years (I’m guessing they were waiting for that de-listing) and the developer decided it would be more expensive to renovate than to demolish it, so down it came. It was amazing to watch and hard to believe that it only took about 16 seconds.
I have seen this building my whole life, either when visiting family when I was a kid or living here as an adult. And I’ve seen it almost daily for the past 11 years as it was about a mile from my office, so will definitely miss it.
