KNM M314 Alta

The American designed AMS 60 class M314 Alta, is a preserved sweeper which still goes at sea. Built in the 1950`s. Completed in 1953. After service in the US navy she was initially given to Belgium and in 1966 to Norway where she served until 1996. Today she is kept alive and in good order by an enthusiastic veteran club where I am a member. Met on board at 0900 am this morning for maintenance work. I have still a smell of diesel oil after being in the engine room. In fact I like the smell. It gives memories from the time I was a young seaman working in the engine room,  50 (!) years ago. With the coveralls on today, the memories back then came up. Lovely day.  The ship participates at different events along the coast in the southern part of Norway during summertime.
