On the way to Paso Robles

A lot of rain today. In Gilroy we managed to be in shops for the worst downpours. Gilroy is an outlet village and prices can be very good. I bought two shirts. We had some food and were on our way.

We go through a wide plain where lots of different vegetables are grown. (Bottom left). The 101 is a mission road and there are mission bells every mile or so. (Bottom right). The idea was that there were missions on the way south within a day’s walk. And travellers could rest there on their way. Middle shows the typical hills with oaks. I was surprised that these were not greener because of all the rain!

Ro drove all the way and was delighted when we arrived to be welcomed by his cousin’s wife. Lots of lovely cooking underway and we are waiting for the man of the house to arrive home! Usually it’s cracking the flags here but not today! Glad I have my warm Pjs!!

Tomorrow Ro and S’s other cousin is coming up from Ventura ! So looking forward to seeing her too!
