10 years ago, when I was in Assisi, I went into the baroque extravagance that is the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. Minerva, because the church is housed in a Roman temple. A small section of Roman fresco had been uncovered, underneath the later decoration.
This is not on the same scale! But I rather liked the effect of small patches of previous layers of graffiti coming to light where the upper layers had flaked off. And it reminded me of a sunny afternoon on my first visit to Italy
