Shearing the meadow

I've been lacking in the gardening this year. And now I've paid of it. Today's shearing of the meadow garden was in a word - brutal.
I think the tools I had for the job were inadequate. Flymo's don't generally cope well with grass that >5" in height.
Its cuts, but I fear a follow up later in the week may be necessary.
