"Just messing about on the river"

Well, on the canal really.
To celebrate the re-opening of the Forth & Clyde canal, a flotilla of canal boats was travelling today from the Falkirk Wheel to the basin at Auchinstarry.
This stretch of the canal has been closed to much water traffic for a couple of years due to two lift bridges being faulty. These are now repaired and back in action.
We saw all sorts and styles from tiny row boats to massive converted cargo barges that filled the locks all by themselves. I really liked the elegant little old steam launches and the barge with the jazz combo on board kept us entertained.
Great to see the canal so busy.
