Middleton Railway

SATURDAY

It was a lovely sunny morning and I ventured over to Leeds to try out the Middleton Woods Parkrun. It's a mixed trail, path and woodland course and I finished in 27th position with an official time of 26:04

After a quick cappuccino at one of the cafes I set off to explore the 470 acre park. The Middleton Railway has a station at the bottom of the park.  It's the world's oldest continually operating railway - opened in 1758. It introduced the world's first commercially successful steam locomotives in 1812.

I arrived in time to see the former NCB locomotive 1310 arrive (main blip).

Today the park was also playing host to the Northern Kite Festival with kites the size of houses expected. Unfortunately the [lack of] wind prevented the larger kites from flying (extra).
