KH558

What a sight in the sky it was when the fabulous delta wing Vulcan was airborne. May 25 marks the 59th anniversary of Vulcan XH558’s maiden production test flight from the Avro factory at Woodford.

Although XH558 was apparently the 12th allocated build number on the production line, she completed a series of test flights throughout June 1960 to be the first available Vulcan B. Mk.2 for delivery to the RAF. She was the first to enter RAF service, and in 1993, she was the last one to leave.
