In other news, earlier today I was on a train back from Glasgow that hit something on the tracks.  After a 30 minute delay we started again, but now there was a hideous metallic burning smell and plumes of grey smoke alongside.  So we stopped again. Eventually we limped into Haymarket so slowly that anyone walking towards the back of the train outpaced the forward progress of the train - still with accompanying smoke and stink, and continuous announcements from guard that "everything is OK, it's not a fire, just smoke from jammed brakes.  DO NOT press the emergency intercom or use emergency exits - stay on the train".  Still, we made it eventually
