Suilven Scenery

Suilven is such an improbable hill, which looks almost impossible to climb. Today she served as the backdrop to lunch, on the shore of Loch Fionn, after a visit to the Falls of Kirkaig.

This we expected to be busy, it seems to be a bit of a tourist draw, despite dire warnings that the path to view the falls is distinctly dangerous (after only a 2 and a bit mile walk in, hence the popularity).

The climb down to view the falls was nowhere near as exposed as we'd expected, and remarkably we found we had the place to ourselves (something, now we spend less time on over-crowded Skye, we can achieve now and then). The masses (well, about 20 people) had started arriving as we headed back after lunch (stopping along the way to watch an Adder slither from one side of the path into the heather, then back across to the other!).

Misanthropy dictates neither of us particularly likes spending time with lots of other people, and even less so when we're in the great outdoors (it's one of the reasons we go on holidays like this so much, and one of the reasons we've visited Skye less in recent times, sadly), so timing visits just this well always feels like winning.

Another loop on the bike after we got back from the hike, highlighting how differently I treat cyclists when in my car compared to other drivers. Nothing that bad, just I realise they've got more personal effort involved, than pressing the accelerator, and so when I see someone coming the opposite direction I tend to stop first in a passing place, rather than forcing them to do so by driving past mine).
