Yesterday, I fixed my cord stop/lock problem with this little round file I bought in Screwfix as part of a set of little files.

I filed away the excess metal from the inner hole, which changed from antique brass to silver, periodically testing the new size against the cord end. When they fit, I threaded them over the cord ends onto the cords themselves. They look as if they were meant to be there all the time.
