Memorial

A 200-mile road trip took me to the Aura municipality in SW Finland. I met an elderly gentleman there, who was evacuated from Karelia at the end of the war. He took me to have a look at this memorial, dedicated to the the evacuee families who resettled in the area. The central stone symbolizes the smokestack of a burned-down house and the chained rocks its corner stones. I was quite moved by the sight, as I'm a descendant of those former Karelians.
