JR

Today we went into San Francisco to the MOMA. There we saw an exhibition of Andy Warhol’s work which was very interesting.

Then having not a lot of energy we were discussing what to go and see when a lady from the museum told us to go and see the JR Chronicles of San Francisco .

JR started tagging buildings in his teens. Then after finding a camera he took photos of the tagging, this led to printing photos and pasting them up etc. There is a really interesting Ted Talk by him: https://www.ted.com/talks/jr_s_ted_prize_wish_use_art_to_turn_the_world_inside_out/up-next?language=en. He received a prize from Ted for his work which allowed him to continue.

This latest project in the MOMA is a huge screen on which you can see many many people from SF, each doing his or her own thing! Each person was filmed individually, talking to a researcher and then all the interviews put together to make this digital photo collage, a constantly changing scene. It is wonderful to watch.

One part, shows a Chinese dragon which was dancing, another the streets of SF so steep that Ro refused to go down one in a car a few years ago! The third extra has Frieda Kahlo!
