Truly Blippin' Marvelous

Nearly purple

more like mauve. These wild flowers must have an affinity for juniper. Not quite the moors of Yorkshire or the hills of Scotland covered in heather . . . nor the " . . .  purple mountain majesties " made famous by the verses written by Katharine Lee Bates atop Pike's Peak, CO in 1893 (with further emendations in1904 and 1911). The tune Materna,  composed by Samuel A. Ward, is eminently more singable than the eighteenth century tune of a drinking song adapted to the national anthem which was only officially adopted in 1931. Information gleaned from Wikipedia. (I should do my editing before I hit 'publish'.)
