Learning day by day

Surin Islands

The kids and I got up early doors today to go on a trip to the Surin Islands, part of the National Park. It was roughly 90mins on a speed boat to the first snorkelling site. The kids loved the whole day. Three snorkelling stops, two before lunch and one after.

Lunch was a buffet at the visitors centre, we saw a Macaque wander freely through the seating. Food was amazing, maybe little spicy for the kids. After lunch we had about 45 mins on an amazing beach (see extras) before heading off to the last snorkelling site.

I was a little concerned about what we actually saw when snorkelling. The coral is definitely being bleached, the fish aren't as copious as they were when we were last here back in Dec 2006. Sure signs of human impact on the earth and it's ecosystem. The kids knew nothing different so the were amazed by the clown fish and other shoals that they saw. It wasn't a cheap trip, but I think it was worth it for their reactions when we were in the water.
