Festive hound...

After putting the turkey in the oven, Pete and I traditionally go dog-walking at Ferry Meadows. This is always one of the best parts of Christmas Day for me - there's always lots of other dog-walkers around to exchange Christmas greetings with, and some (although not many this year) are adorned with tinsel or other festive attire. The floodwaters were nearly as high as they were at the end of November so we took a rather odd and truncated route.

The rest of the morning was spent finishing off the turkey and accompaniments that we were going to convey to Pete's Mum's house in Spalding. Unfortunately the turkey took a little longer to cook than anticipated so we were rather late, which didn't please Pete's Mum, who likes her dinner on time! However, the dinner was delicious, with not too much overlap in components, despite there being some confusion over who was doing what (Pete's Mum is somewhat deaf and a little forgetful which makes communication quite tricky!)

In the afternoon we played poker, which had me completely bemused initially, but I began to get the hang of it, and through a sheer fluke ended up the winner. Then it was a session of Banangrams before present opening, cups of tea, cake and the drive home. The sky was fairly clear and there was a wonderful array of stars. I really must try taking my camera out into the fens to do some star trails one day.

Once home we had a snack supper, watched a bit of TV and then I retreated to bed, exhausted. The boys stayed up to play a new game on the X-box. We never got around to opening most of our presents so have that to look forward to tomorrow!
