Diary of an Edinburgher

Meat eater's lunch!

Isobel popped round just to visit Archie (and us) before she goes away back home to London for the summer holidays. She wanted to say cheerio to us all. How sweet.

So Archie was ready at the window, and made a suitable fuss of her, did a few of his tricks, played tug of war and also had a play with the football out the back. Isobel brought us a wee sketch of Archie too. Everyone was happy.

Then Elizabeth came to take him out for the afternoon. We took ourselves off into town, for we had the sudden urge to eat a steak. We're not vegetarians, and don’t eat much red meat anyway, but every now and again we get the urge.

And so we went to Hawksmoor, and had a very good meal. Not bothering with entrees or desserts, we just had the lunch special - rump and chips (£15). And it was splendid!

It's a very nice place, but my usual gripes about god-awful screechy muzak (same playlist in every Hawksmoor in the country), which wasn’t so disturbing when the place filled up. But it's such refined, sumptuous surroundings, I don’t think Martha and the Vandellas enhances the ambience.

We were hopeful we'd accidentally get served a very expensive bottle of wine, but no luck. They must have learned from last time. I'm confident I wouldn’t notice anyway...

It didn’t rain today, and in fact it was warm, but nothing like the good weather in the entire UK south of us. And all next week looks WET! Got three loads of washing done.
