Sgwarnog: In the Field

Bringing my 18/19 match going to a close (see extras for my season summary), I headed up to Harrogate Town's ground for a CONIFA international between Parishes of Jersey and Chagos Islands.

This was originally supposed to be the third and last day of a four team tournament featuring Yorkshire, Jersey, Kernow (Cornwall) and Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man), but the latter two pulled out with a few weeks to go, so Chagos came in as a late replacement for a rebranded Heritage Cup.

Yorkshire defeated Parishes of Jersey yesterday and will take on Chagos at their home ground in Surrey later in the year to complete the tournament (see my blip of a Yorkshire-Chagos fixture from last year for a further explanation of CONIFA and the Chagos diaspora.)

I thought Jersey might be a bit leggy after playing only twenty four hours previously, but after a frantic start (2-2 after 17 minutes) they dominated the match and ran out 9-2 winners. Chagos were hampered by having a player sent off early in the second half, but to be honest they could have lost a couple more after a string of wayard tackles and yellow cards.

Earlier, I had a short walk on the moor after dropping the kids back at their Mum's. It was dull and showery but I did manage to a single Wall butterfly over by Acre Cottage.

Those of you with an interest in football will notice there is something relatively unusual about today's image. Feel free to speculate in the comments below. This journal will now be a relatively football free zone until the 19/20 pre-season friendlies start, which is all of a month away.
