A Bridge Too Far

by John Addison

This morning a flight to Amsterdam Schiphol and then a train ride to Eindhoven. As it happens, I am currently reading Antony Beevor's Arnhem about the World War II operation Market Garden. This is about the attempt to solve the war in western Europe by a daring tank-supported attack over the Dutch rivers. The attack succeeded only partly as the last and most important bridge over Rhine at Arnhem was not reached. But the bridges over the river Dommel in Eindhoven were captured intact. Hence, I walked along the river trying to find any signs of the battles  but failed. However, I saw some beautiful views like this of a mallard pair on the river against nice reflections.
