Farewell to Wales

We left Crickhowell, my old home town, this morning marvelling yet again at the gentrification of this small market town, now a magnet for people seeking a different way of life, a rural one in an idyllic part of the Welsh countryside.

The streets are sprinkled with outside cafes giving it a continental flavour,  (see extra photo) the former general hardware store Nicholls, now looks like an outpost of Harrods and pedigree dogs strut the streets.

But this comes at a cost. Only the wealthy can afford to live here now. And that is sad.

Met up with some cousins last night and learnt that a 90 year old cousin, a semi-retired farmer in West Wales, still gets up at 5 am every morning and goes on his quad bike around the farm.
