La Bajada Hike

Today, we hiked up La Bajada Hill.

As the history link will report, this hill was on the El Camino Real, used by the Spanish nearly 400 years ago, connecting old Mexico with the Nueveo Mexico capital, Santa Fe.

In later times, it was one of the most challenging parts of Route 66...until 1937 when Route 66 was rerouted through Albuquerque and around this hill.

This hike was only 3.7 miles long. The image shows my hiking buddy, Faith, sitting by one of the switchbacks. In the background, one sees the snow tipped Jemez mountains and Cochiti Lake.
