Tastey morsel

Marie and I went down to the Wainono Lagoon for a look today and would certainly be better if DoC made the track accessable. I captured some Dragonflies darting around and is the first time I have seen so many dragonflies in one spot. This is a Red Veined Darter Dragonfly(Sympetrum fonscolombii) eating a Mayfly this morsal never stood a chance the Dragonfly has 30,000 ommatidia in its compound eyes. Dragonflies don't have teeth but can bite they belong to the Order Odonta they chew and crunch their food with their Odanates or Mandible which is very strong.
