Meconopsis

Headed over to the Explorer's Garden in Pitlochry for a workshop on how to grow meconopsis (the (mainly blue) poppies orginally from the Himalayas. Apparenently the secret is semi-shade, lots of of water, feeding (leaf mulch and cow manure both well decomposed). Each participant got a poppy (in our case meconopis lingholm) to take home. It will be interesting to see if these dare better than a previous attempt.

I also learnt that welsh poppies  (meconopsis cambrica) which we have in abundance arent actually meconopsis but are from the Papaveraceae family, which makes sense as Wales is nowhere near the Himalayas.
