Bus Shelter

A new bus shelter has appeared outside the exit to the Specsavers offices in Guernsey.

Guernsey staff working at La Villiaze who take the bus home will be protected from the elements thanks to a deluxe new shelter.
The shelter has been built at the exit of La Villiaze in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
It has been gifted to the St Andrew's parish by Specsavers, who came up with the idea following staff feedback about an appropriate Jubilee.
Marking the Jubilee
'We thought it would be a fantastic lasting monument to mark the Diamond Jubilee this year, as well as a much needed shelter for parishioners, school children and our own staff who regularly use the bus service,' says Dame Mary Perkins.
'Who knows, Specsavers may start a trend where other companies in Guernsey sponsor well-built bus shelters around the island, that are tasteful and in keeping with the environment.'
All natural materials
The bus shelter was designed by local architect Andre Bisson of A7 Design and built by Desir Design.
The foundations and blue grey granite base were constructed on site while the core of the shelter itself, which features two glass ellipses in keeping with the company logo, was built in a nearby warehouse by Turx Custom design.
All the contractors' names feature on the stainless steel 'buttons' that fix the panels to the sides. The shelter also features a commemorative plaque.

The Facilities Manager (at Specsavers) explained that the shelter is environmentally friendly and is made of natural materials: 'It is designed to be in keeping with the surroundings and consists of a granite base and a cedar wood roof, complete with a solar panel and low-voltage LED lighting.'
Chairman of road safety group Living Streets deputy Tom Le Pelley said: 'We are grateful for Specsavers' support towards our national 'Be Safe Be Seen' initiative and delighted with the new comfortable bus shelter at the roadside for staff using public transport. It also serves as a fitting memento of Specsavers' presence in Guernsey.
