Rock the Boat, Baby ....

Look what was berthed at Gunwharf Quay today. The megayacht Amaryllis, built by the German yard Abeking and Rasmussen and launched November 2011. It measures 78metres [257 feet]. Surrounded by secrecy, it caused quite a stir in the yachting world. Even its name wasn't known until its sea trials in September when the cover over the name blew up and some marine reporters caught a glimpse. The builders say:

The timeless elegance of this immaculately designed yacht is a result of the Owner's deep appreciation for the Belle Époque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.

Lah-di-dah. But there is something quite magnificent about it.

It was freezing cold on the spinnaker point this afternoon, where I got this view of the Amaryllis. I risked frost bite and exposure, and had to anchor myself to the rail to bring you this amazing glimpse into another world. Only a very few lucky people have been invited to see inside this beautiful boat, and sadly, I'm not one of them.
