Culzean Castle (from the beach)

A sunny dry day at Culzean Castle - not really a castle in the defensive sense - more an exercise in fine architecture.  Robert Adam was given what looks like free rein and/or a generous budget,  He clearly decided to go for it - and the results are quite spectacular!

Off to the left of the main image is the gas house where coal was heated to provide gas for the lighting in the late 1800s.  Later on this was replaced with an acetylene plant as the then current owner thought electricity was a fire risk!

In the extra, the path down to one of the beaches.
