CannyScot's Day

Winged Tiara

A mainly dry day with a few showers

After our return from Kendal we have had a visit for a few days from my sister and her husband.

After church, when I was leading, we went to the V&A Design Museum. One of the exhibits was this diamond-winged Cartier tiara commissioned by the Duchess of Roxburghe.

The tiara was created in 1935, the year of Mary Crewe-Milnes' marriage to the 9th Duke of Roxburghe.

The Valkyrie tiara comprises more than 2,500 cushion-shaped, single-cut, circular-cut and rose-cut diamonds, set in a gold and silver frame.

It is the first time it has been displayed in public.
