Everyday I Write The Book

Pretty as a postcard

We changed our plans after a lazy start - we were going up to The Docklands Museum in London but opted for Chawton House in Hampshire instead. This is absolutely beautiful on a summer’s day. It’s run by an independent charity, check it out

I don’t usually do bucolic blips but this was irresistible; the house is in the distance with the church on the right. The whole place is about half a mile up the road from the centre of the main village of Chawton, where you will find the house where Jane Austen lived the last eight years of her life. The village basically consists of a pub and a tea room and a collection of beautiful houses. The fast train to London is only two miles down the road in Alton so you could live there in rural isolation and still get up to the metropolis with ease. But I suspect no-one wants to sell their houses ...
