We spent two hours this morning on a free walking tour of Ljubljana which was very interesting and put the city and country into a historical and geographical context.

Afterwards we had coffee and traditional Gibanica pastry at the ‘skyscraper’ 12th floor terrace cafe; great views across the city to the hills and mountains beyond.

We took the funicular railway up to the castle and back, before wandering along the main street; we ate outside at one of the many restaurants there later.
