The Mary Rose Uncovered

I last visited the Mary Rose Museum in 2015 when the hulk was still covered in pipes while they dried her out after over 25 years of preservation.

Today, the museum galleries are fully open and the pipes have gone to give an almost unobstructed view of the Mary Rose, complete with multimedia interpretation (including Hatch the dog  trying to "help" the Ship's Carpenter).

Before entering the museum I felt privileged to see the Royal Navy's lead ship in dock, the HMS Queen Elizabeth (R08) aircraft carrier (extra), the largest warship built for the Navy. I was struck by the size of the ship, which accomodates a crew of 250. Compare that with the Mary Rose, at a fraction of the size, with over 500 crew and soldiers on board when she sank. Even now, looking at the Mary Rose I wonder where on earth they all fitted, and marvelled at the cook who fed them all from just 2 cooking pots (extra).
