Dead Man Walking

This was the fate of the late, first-ever democratically-elected President of Egypt, Mohammed Mursi . . . see yesterday's blip for full details.

The government of the usurper-President Sisi put out a brief 42-word statement to announce (more like note) the event in which only Mursi"s untitled name and the fact he died shortly after a court appearance were mentioned. It ran in the inside page of every newspaper in the 'criminal' section, apart from one which put a comment on the front page.

A video of a national TV presenter voicing this script went viral when she also read out the end of the government text, somewhat giving the game away . . . 'Sent from a Samsung Device', looking confused as she stared into the camera.

Mursi's body was dumped into a hole in the ground in a scrubby corner of a cemetery in the far east side of Cairo, with only his wife and two sons present apart from the state executioners. A plea to take his body back to his home town for burial fell on deaf ears. Ears that are also deaf to the wailing of up to 60,000 political prisoners being tortured in the Egypt's prisons, as I write.
